Welcome to the Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) web site for the reaffirmation of accreditation by the Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). WSSU is a regional, master’s level public institution that strives to develop the skills and values students need to contribute to and succeed in the changing economy of the 21st century. A constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, WSSU is a historically black university that offers educational opportunities to a diverse student population. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the university among Top Public Comprehensive Colleges in the South – Bachelor’s Category for the last nine years (2001-2009). Beyond technical skills, the WSSU educational experience inspires individual commitment to community service through classroom and field experiences that develop civic leadership and prepare students to make lifetime contributions to society. Going through the reaffirmation process has provided an opportunity for self-examination and inspection, the results of which will help to guide the institution going forward.
